Trying to raise a life rooted in nature

Choosing presence over perfection

When I became a mother, I made a promise to myself that I wanted to raise my children differently.

Not because I believe there is one perfect way to parent, but because of the childhood I experienced & how I saw people parent their own children, even as an adult, in this day & age- I didn’t agree. Growing up taught me just how important it is for children to feel safe, heard, loved & truly seen.

More than anything, I want my children to know that their thoughts matter, their feelings are valid & that there will always be someone willing to listen.

Life can become incredibly (we have to learn to slow down- me included!) busy & it's easy for the days to disappear behind endless to-do lists & glowing screens. While technology certainly has its place, I try to create a home where conversations are valued, where curiosity is encouraged & where time together matters more than time spent online.

For me & my children, life's richest moments happen away from screens—around the dinner table, baking together, cooking together, walking through the woods, foraging, reading books, or simply talking about our day- the lists are endless that can be done!

Our home isn't perfect, but it's filled with intention.

Since becoming a mother young, one of my greatest hopes has been to raise my children with a deep appreciation for the simple things in life. I want them to grow up feeling connected—not only to nature, but to themselves, to one another & to the world around them.

I want my children to know that nature isn't something we visit occasionally—it's something we belong to. I hope they grow up recognising & understanding the value of our native flora/fauna & respecting the incredible world that exists just beyond our front door.

Health has also become one of the greatest gifts I hope to pass on. I'm helping my children build a relationship with food that's rooted in knowledge rather than restriction. My hope is that these lessons stay with them long into adulthood.

Above everything else, I want my children to know they are deeply loved. I want them to feel safe enough to share their thoughts/feelings without fear of judgement. If they grow up knowing they are valued, connected to nature, confident in caring for their health and kind to those around them, then I will feel I've given them something truly lasting.

This is the childhood I'm trying to create—not one filled with perfection, but one rooted in love, presence, curiosity, appreciation & the quiet beauty of the natural world.

Learning From nature🤎

Nature has become one of our greatest teachers- no it isn’t easy in this modern day world but I try my best to get my kids to experience the beauty of Mother Earth.

Some of our favourite adventures are spent walking through local woodlands with a little basket (I love my basket! haha), fields & hedgerows, discovering the incredible plants growing all around us & picking some snacks (in the form of berries, or any other goodies we find growing along the paths we are venturing.)

I love introducing my children to wild herbs, edible plants & seasonal changes, helping them understand that the natural world has so much to offer when we slow down enough to notice it.

Foraging for me has become much more than collecting plants.

It's teaching patience.

It's learning respect for wildlife & the environment.

It's understanding that every season brings something different.

Most importantly, it's showing my children that beauty can be found in the simplest places.

Food as a foundation🤎

Good health, nutrition & wellness has become one of my greatest passions! Along with helping families by giving them advice on how to live a healthier lifestyle.

As I learn (I am still learning every single day!) more about the connection between food, mental health & overall wellbeing, I realise that nourishing our bodies doesn't have to be complicated.

I want my children to grow up understanding where food comes from, how to cook from scratch & why simple, wholesome ingredients can be so powerful.

Rather than seeing healthy eating as a set of rules, I hope they'll see it as an act of kindness towards themselves. YOUR BODY IS YOUR TEMPLE.

Together we prepare nourishing meals, make smoothies, healthy treats, experiment with herbs & learn that food is the base for our health. I teach them about herbal tea blends- what herbs are good for what- so that they have a strong connection & understanding of why food is so powerful to heal.

These moments are some of my favourites because they create memories while teaching valuable life skills.

Building something together🤎

Running my two wellness businesses has become another opportunity to involve my children in everyday life.

Whenever it's appropriate, they love to help with small tasks, whether that's mixing together ingredients for our skincare range or preparing ingredients for our healthy kitchen, packing orders or talking about new ideas.

They're learning that meaningful work takes patience, creativity, discipline & consistency.

More importantly, I hope they're seeing that it's possible to build something with from just a dream. With heart & passion—something that genuinely helps inspire other people.

These little moments also remind them that they're an important part of our family's journey.

A childhood to remember🤎

My greatest hope isn't that my children grow up remembering expensive toys or endless entertainment.

  • I hope they remember muddy boots & feet after woodland walks.

  • Grounding barefoot on the fields outside.

  • Fresh bread cooling on the kitchen counter that our hands have made together.

  • Picking blackberries & foraging plums in late summer.

  • Learning the names & benefits of wildflowers.

  • Cooking meals together.

  • Watching birds, listening to the rain & noticing the changing seasons.

I hope they remember feeling listened to, encouraged & loved by the universe.

If they grow up knowing how to care for their bodies, appreciate the natural world & treat others with kindness, then I'll feel I've given them something far more valuable than anything money could buy! That will be my legacy to them- teaching them the ancient ways & knowledge.

🤎 A gentle note

Every family is different. Every parent walks their own path. This page simply shares what feels right for our family & the values we're striving to live by. I hope it offers encouragement & inspiration- as you discover what works best for yours.

But this is just a reminder to remember- your children are only children once & they are the future generation. Make them memories- teach them what our ancestors learned, take them off the screens & get them active & outside. Go make them bonfires, build dens, eat some freshly picked raspberries- there’s so much out there to do & see.

Becoming a mother at 19🤎

I had my first daughter just after turning nineteen.

I was still growing up myself, learning who I was & trying to make sense of my own experiences. Becoming a mother young wasn't always easy but from the very first moment I laid eyes on her, I knew I wanted to give her a childhood filled with the love, safety & encouragement that every child deserves!

She became my greatest teacher.

As she grew, I grew alongside her.

She taught me patience on the difficult days & joy in the simplest moments. She taught me that children don't need perfection—they need presence. She taught me to slow down & appreciate the little things that many people disregard.

Most of all, she taught me what true/unconditional love really feels like.

Before becoming a mother, I understood love only through my own experiences. Loving my daughter showed me a different kind of love entirely—a love that asks for nothing in return. A love that protects, encourages, comforts & quietly stands beside someone through every season of life.

She inspired me to become the best mother I could possibly be & even though I am not perfect, I strive to be the best parent I can be every single day.

She made me want to learn more, to heal, to grow & to break cycles that had existed long before I was even born. Every choice I made from that point onwards was no longer just about me; it was about creating a healthier, happier future for her- she is my rock- “I love you so much darling.”

As the years passed & our family grew, so did my passion for health, nutrition, nature & living more intentionally. I wanted my children to understand where food comes from, to appreciate the beauty of the natural world & to know that caring for their bodies is one of the greatest & most important gifts they can give themselves.

Motherhood has never been about getting everything right.

It's about showing up every single day with love, empathy, learning from mistakes, listening with an open heart & choosing again & again, to grow alongside your children.

My daughter will never fully realise just how much she has shaped the person I have become.

She didn't simply make me a mother.

She helped me become the woman I am today.

For that, I will always be grateful.
