Girl of the woods.
Content note: Some poems in this collection explore themes of childhood abuse, trauma, mental health & recovery. While these pieces are deeply personal, they are shared with the hope of raising awareness, encouraging understanding & reminding others that healing is possible.
A deeply reflective poem that uses the imagery of an endless forest to explore fear, isolation, trauma & the search for hope. It captures the feeling of being trapped between the past & the future, longing for light while navigating the shadows within. Through this piece, I hope to give a voice to the emotions that so often remain hidden & remind others that even the darkest paths are worth walking through.
‘The enclosment of the trees, collapsing dusk all around me. Moonlights’ crisp but tiny touch, although it isn’t much. These woods are my friend- until the days very end. How long have I been here, when will daylight reappear? Where are all my friends, And how long shall I wait before I cleanse? Cleanse myself of the ugly truth, although still in my youth. Time hasn’t moved along, like a hummingbirds chantering song. Is it time for me to question, all that I do not mention? What is the awakening that awaits, am I all too late? Why is my soul so filled with fear? Frightening sounds is all I hear. My heart consumed in lies, and my brain so full of despise. Is this the fate of my sorry being, or is there more that I should be seeing? What am I doing here, and how do I disappear? How long can my body wander? Is there a place out there yonder? How long have I been in these woods? Would I move if my skeleton could? I don’t think I want to remember, the demise that lays within September. My home is so broken and cold, is it myself that I should scold? Still no sign of dawn, like a mothers tummy full of scorn. Who really is the one to blame, for blanketing me in all this pain? I cry and cry for help, however my anguish resembles a pitiful yelp. Swollen eyes full of tears, carrying sorrow from all the years. How long the duration I do not know, The shadows forever grow and grow.’
