Content note: Some poems in this collection explore themes of childhood abuse, trauma, mental health & recovery. While these pieces are deeply personal, they are shared with the hope of raising awareness, encouraging understanding & reminding others that healing is possible.

This reflective poem explores the journey of living with anxiety while finding comfort & healing in nature. Through an autumn walk and an unexpected encounter with a fox, it tells a story of resilience, self-discovery & learning to let go of fear. A gentle reminder that even the smallest moments in nature can help us find strength, peace and hope.

‘Surrounded by multicoloured autumn leaves and the dusky, evening breeze. Greeted by a daring fox, while sat upon smooth pebbled rocks.
My home only less than a mile away but I know that if I astray- my mind will become lost and anxiety will freeze over the body, like frost.
“Push yourself harder!” My heart is saying. All the while, my brain, repeatedly disobeying.
There is no positive outcome, for a girl like me. Whose mental state suffers and declines, continuously.
My skeleton does the opposite of what it normally is supposed to do and takes the next big step, within the hillside dew.
“That’s it! You’ve done it! Now please don’t stop. Carry on until, your footprints, engrave the small mountain top.”
The walk becomes encouraging and different from the rest… Mother Nature has inspired me, to trudge on with this test.
Need to banish the persisting fears, of possibly being followed. It’s untrue, it’s bizarre! I wish my head hadn’t become so hollowed.
Thinking there’s always someone coming to get you, is draining and sad. I need to relearn and understand, that not everyone is so bad.
They’re not all monsters… not all out to bite and the fox that has been accompanying me, proves that it’s right!
A sign? A blessing? I really don’t know. But this trek has allowed me, to somewhat heal and grow.
Grow from the negative thoughts, that occasionally enter my mind. I stroll on now for miles- leaving the negative thoughts behind.’
