Honesty.
Content note: Some poems in this collection explore themes of childhood abuse, trauma, mental health & recovery. While these pieces are deeply personal, they are shared with the hope of raising awareness, encouraging understanding & reminding others that healing is possible.
A raw & honest account of surviving childhood abuse, this poem reflects on the darkness of the past, the courage of those who helped change my future, and the strength it takes to heal. Above all, it is a reminder that even after profound trauma, hope & peace are possible.
‘Honestly, I didn’t think I would make it past the age of about ten. My world is so much different now, then what it was back then. Dark, dim and cold- was the only life I knew. If I told you about my upbringing, you just wouldn’t believe it was true. It’s hard to believe myself, when I really sit back and think. Living on the edge of denial and my soul was on the brink. On the brink of no return, on the brink of sanity’s death; constantly waking up wondering, if this was the day I’d take my last breath. But you see, I was rescued, by a very old time friend. She saved my life and set me free- I’ll always be forever grateful until the end. Without her speaking up, I just don’t know where I’d be. My abuser would most likely be serving time- for murder in the first degree. Instead he’s serving only 9 years, for abusing his own child. Tell me, how is that acceptable? How was his punishment so mild? The traumas that he put me through, since when I was just a newborn; the events that took place every day, was undoubtedly forlorn. I hope you like my depth and rawness, even though it’s sad. I am able to write about my feelings now because my life isn’t as bad. Sure I get upset at times; sure I get depressed. But now I can finally move on- I have found peace and have progressed!'
